The project included the diversion of a section of the River Rea due to a new multi-use development in the area. As this section of the river is subject to high flows advice on product selection was important to the landscape architect. On site installation guidance for the contractor as provided throughout the project.
The scheme was designed to provide one in 75-year level of flood protection to Hawick from the River Teviot and Slitrig Water. The local flood risk management plan specified biodegradable erosion protection which combined with the high energy watercourses required careful product selection and installation guidance.
The local environmental management plan for the Borough of Hillingdon called for silt mitigation to be provided for watercourses on the HS2 enabling works. Greenfix biodegradable River Mat sediment entrapment matting was specified as it would have no environmental impact once the works were complete.
