Priority Substances and Micro-Pollutants

Date:
Thursday, September 14, 2017 - 09:00 to 16:00
Location:
Central London

EU legislation, in particular the Water Framework Directive, WFD, sets out measures against chemical pollution of our surface waters including establishing the provision for a list of Priority Substances (Annex X of the Directive). This has resulted in important ramifications for pollution control measures. However, this is an ever evolving challenge with emerging substances not currently subject to detailed control.

This conference will examine new developments and emerging issues in the field of priority substances. The programme will give the EU and UK policy background, exploring current challenges including the implications of EU exit and potential scope of future regulatory framework drawing on examples from across the UK.

It will then move on to examine technological advances and current research before finally looking at emerging issues including pharmaceuticals and microplastics.

The aim of this conference is to set out current legislation, developing trends and understanding on the scale of the problem in the field of priority substances and whether we are making progress. It will focus on emerging substances and the latest research on their control and impacts.
