Next Steps for Natural Environment Policy in England

This seminar will provide an opportunity to assess the next steps for biodiversity, wildlife conservation and natural capital, including priorities for natural environment policy in the context of Brexit.

The seminar will include:

  • Recent publication of Defra's UK Climate Change Risk Assessment 2017 report and its implications for natural capital
  • Following the Environment Secretary's recent speech outlining Defra's commitment to launch a consultation on their 25-year Environment Plan
  • The Environmental Audit Committee's report and their recommendations on the future of the natural environment after Brexit

Areas for discussion include:

  • Next steps for environmental conservation: funding, cooperation, and utilising evidence and data
  • Stakeholder engagement, environmental principles in the planning system and climate change adaptation
  • Assessing current and future regulatory priorities for environmental protection
