Identifying, Planning and Undertaking River Restoration Projects

This two day practical workshop helped participants assess suitable locations for river restoration projects. Advice on planning and undertaking projects was given. Technical information needed to ensure that a project is appropriate for its setting and is sustainable was explained. Funding sources were also identified.

Rivers are a significant feature of Scotland’s natural heritage but are subjected to a multitude of pressures. These have altered the natural functioning of many rivers and the habitats and species they support. This workshop explored how rivers function, how this natural functioning has been altered, and how it can be sympathetically restored and the benefits of doing so.
