Colin Thorne is a Professor of Physical Geography at the University of Nottingham. Colin is a river scientist with experience in environmental sciences, civil engineering and physical geography. He has been involved in river restoration projects in the UK, USA and many other countries worldwide. He has published several books and over 120 journal papers and book chapters that have been cited nearly 12 thousand times. During a career spanning four decades, he has held academic posts at UEA, Colorado State University, the USDA National Sedimentation Laboratory, USACE Waterways Experiment Station, University of Canterbury (NZ), NOAA Fisheries, and the University of Nottingham. He is also an Affiliate Professor at Portland State University.

Colin presented his work on anastomosing channels, the Stream Evolution Model and thinking outside the channel, at  the RRC Conference last year.

In his keynote Colin will give a brief retrospective on the last 20 years of river restoration, followed by a prospective on the next 20 years.
