Geomorphologist and river restoration specialist on relocation of the channel (designated as an SSSI). Responsible for the detailed design which involved re-naturalisation (improved sinuosity, more natural widths and improved floodplain connection)
Days Brook, Nottingham (Completed: January 2020)
Responsible as technical lead for the implementation of two ‘naturalisation’ projects in urban park settings. The detailed design included secondary channels and establishing new riffles. Required careful dialogue with stakeholders and tool box talks.
M54/M6 Junction Channel realignments (Completed: January 2020)
This is a typical road infrastructure project requiring realignment of a key waterbody/ watercourses. Responsible overall for the geomorphology baseline assessment, aspects of EIA, WFD Compliance Assessment and River Condition Assessment.
I have 39 years experience as a practising geomorphologist, covering most river types in the UK over that time. I have written numerous publications including books on the impacts of engineering schemes and river restoration. I am now an Independent consultant, having previously worked for the Environment Agency and its predecessors for 17 years and then as a consultant for Gifford/ Ramboll, Jacobs and AECOM.
