Wessex Chalk Stream and Rivers Trust (WCSRT) is a small and ambitious environmental charity dedicated to the protection and enhancement of rivers in the South of England, which includes the Hampshire Avon, the Dorset Stour, the Test, the Itchen and the Meon.

As a result of the present post holder leaving to manage the family farm, WCSRT is seeking to recruit a Test and Itchen Catchment Officer. It is desirable the successful candidate will have experience in at least three of the four following areas:

  • Catchment Management and Water Quality
  • River Restoration or Management
  • Wetland Management
  • River or Fish Ecology

The successful applicant will lead WCSRT involvement in and jointly host the Test and Itchen Catchment Partnership with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. The officer will assist in the development and delivery of habitat restoration projects. The role is expected also to offer the opportunity for active involvement in a number of existing, as well as new, WCSRT and partnership projects and initiatives in the wider WCSRT area.

You will preferably have at least 3 years experience in a related post in the environmental/water sector. WCSRT will be pleased to consider applications from graduates with water and river related post-graduate qualifications.

WCSRT staff currently includes the director, two catchment officers, (one for the Hampshire Avon and one for River Test/Itchen), a part-time project manager, a part-time education officer and a part-time administrator.

You will be passionate about rivers and expected to have a strong committment to the values of the Rivers Trust movement.
