Supporting Green River Engineering - GI - Green Infrastructure HR Wallingford

Wednesday, July 26, 2017

There has been a number of new initiatives on green infrastructure (GI) recently. A new resource from HR Wallingford shows how GI can help protect river banks and reduce flow speeds, and is often cheaper than conventional river engineering whilst providing multiple benefits. A survey for the EU funded PERFECT project shows the different values places on GI across Europe. The highest ranked benefit was improvements to people's mental health, followed by physical health and overheating in urban areas. A new study finds that hedges more effective at combating street pollution than trees. Finally, a WHO report looks at the effectiveness of GI interventions on health in urban areas. It calls for collaborative approaches, better targeting of measures and improved monitoring.
