Our Company

Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. Through our work, we make a positive difference in the world.

We have a great opportunity to join our growing water team in Newcastle as a civil engineer or catchment scientist to assist in the delivery of a wide range of infrastructure, water/environmental, digital and research projects.

The Arup staff have the opportunity to work on both local and global projects. Using our ‘Skills Networks,’ we bring together broad-minded individuals from a wide range of disciplines and encourage them to look beyond the constraints of their own specialism.

The Role

The successful applicant will form part of a team of environmental and ecological consultants, water engineers, river catchment scientists and digital specialists. The role will expose the candidate to a great variety of projects including major infrastructure, flood defence, river restoration and environmental enhancement projects. We also have opportunities to get involved in international projects, should the candidate want to explore this.

As part of this role, the applicant will be developing concepts and designs for flood risk, river restoration, natural flood management and fish passage schemes, working on environmental appraisal related to the water environment and flood risk, and advancing digital techniques across our water and environment business. As part of the team’s wider remit in ‘water’ within Arup, there will be opportunities to link with other teams across the business to develop broader engineering skills and knowledge.

The Team

The Newcastle office is well established and comprises about 100 engineers and consultants working in the infrastructure and buildings sectors. Our growing flood risk, rivers and coastal team comprises around 10 civil engineers, geomorphologists, hydraulic modellers, GIS specialists and technicians, working closely with our global network of specialists.
