Salary: £28,000–£34,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Contract: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

The Chilterns Chalk Streams Project is looking for a Rivers Officer to join its friendly and dedicated team, helping to conserve and restore one of the world's rarest habitats – the chalk streams of the Chilterns.

Hosted by the Chilterns National Landscape, the project has spent nearly 30 years protecting and enhancing chalk streams by working with local river groups, farmers, landowners, water companies, statutory bodies and environmental organisations.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering long-term improvements to the condition, management and appreciation of chalk streams, with much of the work focused on two major programmes: Thames Water's Smarter Water Catchment initiative in the River Chess catchment and Mending the Misbourne, part-funded by HS2.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the delivery of chalk stream restoration projects
  • Working with local communities, landowners and partner organisations
  • Helping to improve the condition and management of chalk streams
  • Contributing to the delivery of long-term catchment restoration programmes
  • Promoting the value of chalk streams and engaging with stakeholders
