Yorkshire Water is looking for an Ecological Data Officer to join its Environment Team and play a key role in managing, assuring and applying ecological and hydro-ecological data to support environmental improvement across Yorkshire.
The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary environmental team, helping to deliver key regulatory programmes, including WINEP and the Biodiversity Performance Commitment. The role will focus on ensuring high-quality ecological data underpins decision-making, biodiversity outcomes and sustainable water management.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing ecological data across the Environment Team, ensuring datasets are accurate, consistent and accessible
- Leading quality assurance of ecological data from suppliers
- Supporting delivery of biodiversity and regulatory commitments
- Processing and interpreting complex hydro-ecological datasets
- Developing and maintaining ecological data systems and processes
- Collaborating with Rivers Trusts, Wildlife Trusts and other environmental partners
- Supporting the management of ecological data within ESRI GIS systems
- Producing reports and dashboards using tools such as Power BI and ESRI
The successful candidate will have:
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, GIS or a related discipline
- Experience managing ecological or environmental data, including spatial datasets
- Strong knowledge of GIS platforms (such as ESRI) and data management principles
- Understanding of habitat classification, protected species data and ecological survey standards
- Experience working with complex environmental datasets
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- A full UK driving licence
