As our global temperature rises, so does the threat of flooding. A new strategy launched by the Environment Agency in May 2019 calls for urgent investment in natural barriers and flood relief systems, and the creation of resilient communities that can withstand this increased risk of flooding. Flood risk management has never been so critical to protecting future generations from disaster.

To celebrate 70 years of CIWEM’s Rivers and Coastal Group, this conference will feature a diverse range of speakers including practitioners, regulators and past leaders of the Rivers and Coastal Group, reviewing major trends over the last 70 years.

What can history teach us about the most effective approach to flood risk management? How can we apply lessons learned to the challenges we face today? And as our environment faces an uncertain future, what role can those working in rivers and coastal management play to protect future generations?
