This conference follows the publication of the Agricultural Transition Plan 2021 to 2024, and will discuss the changes outlined in the plan alongside the implementation of the Government’s Environmental Land Management Scheme, which includes:

  • the Sustainable Farming Incentive scheme
  • the Local Nature Recovery scheme
  • the Landscape Recovery Scheme

The discussion will also consider the future for agricultural land use in the context of wider policy developments, such as the Government’s Agriculture Act, Environment Bill, and Action Plan for Animal Welfare, as well as the wider context of the pandemic and the UK leaving the EU and the impact on the agriculture sector.

We are pleased to be able to include keynote contributions from several key stakeholders, including:

  • Next steps for agriculture policy - with Victoria Prentis MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Defra

  • Effective environmental land management and supporting biodiversity - with Professor Michael Winter, Professor of Land Economy and Society, Centre for Rural Policy Research, University of Exeter; Board Member, Natural England; and Member

Overall, the agenda will bring out latest thinking on:

  • supporting sector recovery from COVID-19 and improving supply chain and market conditions
  • priorities for funding following the UK’s exit from the EU and supporting rural communities
  • adapting to the challenge of climate change and moving towards net-zero
