The Environment Agency (EA) has published the hydromorphological segmented reaches for the English river network. The RRC created the original reaches, separated into hydromorphologically similar sections and partnered with Natural Capital Solutions, where these reaches were adapted for the EA ESME project. Its an open source dataset and available on the Defra Data Service Platform (DSP) from this link. Separating your catchment into reaches is our recommended approach to catchment planning, and whilst these reaches may not perfectly reflect reality, they are a great starting off point from which to tweak start and end points when ground truthing reach locations.
Access reaches:
By clicking on the link above you will be taken to the DSP and you can make a number of choices from this page for accessing the data.

Similar to other data sources on the platform, you can download data in a number of formats and select data to download via a number of routes uploading shapefiles, drawing a polygon around an area of interest or accessing the full dataset.

Here is an example of downloaded data using the Western Rother Waterbody as an example. The shapefile was obtained from the catchment data explorer and the reaches were uploaded into GIS software where you can separate reaches using Reach ID.
