Refresher River Habitat Survey

The River Restoration Centre (RRC) offers a hybrid refresher course for individuals with existing RHS certification, enabling them to renew their qualification. This course combines online learning with a fieldwork session on a river of your choice.

Course components:

• Diagnostic Quiz: Identify areas to revise based on your quiz results.
• Interactive Videos: Learn key aspects of the RHS form through engaging videos.
• Zoom Session: Discuss your questions with an RHS expert before the fieldwork.
• River Survey: Conduct a survey on a river of your choice, including videos of the site to assess your skills. This includes:
  • A completed RHS form
  • General site photos
  • Videos at each of the 10 spot-check locations.

These materials will be uploaded to the RRC for assessment by qualified RHS staff.

• Test: To demonstrate your knowledge of the RHS methodology, you will complete an online test under invigilated conditions via Zoom. This assessment ensures that delegates have maintained the necessary level of understanding required to renew their RHS certification.

Once you complete the fieldwork, you will receive feedback in a 45-minute one-on-one session, which includes:

• Specific comments on the test and survey
• General discussion of the RHS technique and course content.

Test Results

This will be provided by RRC within two weeks of the test date. Delegates will receive a detailed breakdown of their results, including feedback on individual questions.

Please note: This refresher course is available only to individuals certified by the RRC. If you were accredited by the Environment Agency (EA), you will need to attend an EA-run refresher course to maintain your accreditation.
