Details:
We have designed this course as a hybrid learning experience. Course materials will be found on the online learning platform, allowing participants to work through them at their own pace over a 4-week period. Afterward, we will host an online discussion session where all attendees can join and engage in a conversation about the material.

The Advanced Hydromorphology (Level 3) course builds on the concepts introduced in the Level 1 and Level 2 Hydromorphology courses. This interactive course provides a detailed, hands-on approach to applying basic sediment transport and flow regime equations. These tools will be used to assess the current condition of rivers and to plan and design river restoration projects, drawing on case studies from both urban and rural settings. The course will equip participants with the skills to carry out these assessments and present effective river restoration and natural flood management techniques. It is aimed at consultants, contractors, academics, catchment partners, NGOs, trusts, and representatives from local authorities, local governments, and statutory agencies.
Requirements: Participants are expected to have completed the Introduction to Hydromorphology (Level 1) course or the River Habitat Survey Certification course, as well as the Hydromorphology for River Restoration (Level 2) course, or demonstrate equivalent prior training or knowledge.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Identify channel modifications and their impact on natural river forms and processes.
- Apply knowledge of the drivers behind hydromorphological processes and forms to river restoration design.
- Use basic equations to calculate flow and sediment transport and apply these calculations to river restoration projects.
- Develop a monitoring strategy for river restoration initiatives.
