The conference addresses the latest advances in the field of wetland nutrient and pollution transformations, ecosystem valuation and pollution control in natural and constructed wetlands.
Natural wetlands are widely recognised as one of the key natural resources on earth, and are one of the most threatened ones. In the past decades, significant interest and government-funded research has been invested on progressing the understanding of wetland functions and ecosystem services, in particular, related to flood attenuation and water pollutant dynamics.
In parallel, significant development and uptake of the use of constructed wetlands technology for water quality improvement has taken place. In the UK alone, there are currently over a thousand constructed wetlands built for the treatment of domestic wastewater, industrial effluents and agricultural runoffs, with significant research ongoing worldwide in trying to improve wetland design for specific pollutant removal targets.
Cranfield University is joining WETPOL with the annual CWA conference, providing a platform for the natural and constructed wetlands researchers and practitioners to exchange knowledge and advance the overall understanding of these complex ecosystems.
