2015 DHI UK & Ireland Symposium: Knowledge sharing for water and environmental professionals

Date:
Tuesday, April 21, 2015 to Wednesday, April 22, 2015
Location:
Macdonald Ansty Hall, Coventry, CV7 9HZ

The Symposium is a free-of-charge knowledge sharing event for water and environmental professionals comprising both conference-style presentations on Day 1 and workshop-style training sessions on Day 2. The conference is open to everyone and you certainly do not need any experience with the MIKE software to come along and join in. The Symposium offers the chance to meet people in both formal sessions as well as over dinner and during breakout sessions. You will also be able to meet the local DHI support team and DHI staff from Head Office, as well as your contemporaries from consultancy, academia and research.

Day 1: 21st April 2015
We are now in the advanced stages of planning and a wide selection of clients have submitted presentations and delegate places are filling up. We have two exciting keynote presentations for you this year:

  • The morning session keynote presentation from Adrian Bell (RPS) will focus on hydraulic and environmental analyses using MIKE 21/3 for the redevelopment of Dublin Port (see http://dublinportabr.ie/).
  • The afternoon session keynote presentation from Henrik Frier (Aarhus Water) will discuss the development of an operational real time control and warning system for urban areas and receiving waters. The presentation will share the experience gained during five years of design, development and implementation in the city of Aarhus in Denmark, focusing on the transition from desktop models and design plans to a robust live operational system (see http://youtu.be/pHqm8v55R9k for a short video of the project).

In addition to these keynote speakers, we have confirmed presentations for Day 1 from the following and more to come:

  • Ted Schlicke (SEPA) who will tell us about investing the environmental impact of aquaculture on marine waters
  • Daniel Rodger (JBA) who will talk about River Carron Wave Propagation and Engineering Assessment
  • Andy Wilson (DHI) who will give us a Swedish and Scottish perspective on slow response runoff modelling and ‘real-time’ simulations
  • Oliver Way (Hyder) who will describe work he has been undertaking to assess coastal overtopping in Weymouth Bay
  • Tom Ashby (WSP) who will present his experiences of wave modelling in the Caspian Sea

Day 2: 22nd April 2015
We have a full programme for you on Day 2 with training and innovation sessions to cover all interests:

Marine Focus:
Shoreline Model – for the next generation of coastal modelling
ECO Lab – up-close and personal
MIKE 3 – next generation modelling

Water Resources Focus:
Beyond Hydrodynamics (or ‘Flood waters are not blue’) – demonstrating how easy it is to take an existing hydraulic model and use it in any number of different ways

MIKE ‘Customisable’ Focus:
LIVE demonstration – how to build a flood forecasting system
